Leaves are falling

Today was unseasonably warm and a day off school.  What a gift!  We had a nice leisurely morning, which included brunch, then one last romp in our favorite park.  As the kids ran about I sat and enjoyed the sun on my face, and the leaves gently floating to the ground all around us.  These days are on their way out, so I’m trying to soak them in as much as I can.

Middle school

We’ve been in transition mode at our house.  Our oldest started middle school this year.  The change has thrown us into two school worlds, instead of our comfy one elementary school.  We get up earlier, have more after school activities, and even more homework.  There are different rules for just about everything, higher expectations for students and lower expectations for parental involvement.

It’s thrown me for a bit of a loop, but my girl has been killing it–making new friends, joining clubs and rising to the challenge.  Now I just need to figure out how to keep up with her.

Mischief

I had the great fortune of growing up with a mischievous little brother.  He was always getting himself into trouble.  I don’t think our mom appreciated it much at the time, but his shenanigans make for great stories now that we’re adults.  You know, things like the time he set off a fire extinguisher in our little car, or the time he decided our dog Brownie wasn’t brown enough so he painted him.  Head to toe with brown house paint.  For real.

We live far apart now, but I’m always grateful for a brother who was full of fun and a little bit of spice.

My brother and his family.
